Internet gaming and social media provide challenges to many families. Simon Andrews from Optimistic Kids and OK Psychology has partnered with Brenton Carle, Bachelor of Eco Tourism from Canoe the Coorong to provide a wilderness psychology program where parents and their children can experience two days completely without screens, in one of Australia’s most beautiful national parks.
Simon Andrews is the Principal Psychologist at OK Psychology. He has been a registered psychologist since 1996 and is a Member of the Clinical College of the Australian Psychological Society. Simon has written three resilience programs for Junior School, Middle School and New Arrivals that are used in schools and at OK Psychology. He wrote and delivered mental toughness programs for the Port Adelaide Football Club Community Department for ten years. Simon’s most recent focus is in the assessment, treatment and prevention of internet gaming, social media and device addiction.
OK Wilderness will:
· Assess screen use and its impact on daily life for both children and parents.
· Teach skills for coping with difficult feelings and behaviours around screens.
· Teach strategies to re-engage with school and family life in a way that is not dominated by screens.
Post-program follow-up sessions are available to help maintain new behaviours.
Private health insurance rebates may be available for the four group psychology session on the trip. Parents will need to investigate this themselves, as rebates vary.
Self-managed NDIS clients will also need to investigate whether this service is claimable on their plan.
The program is also available at our city and Tea Tree Gully offices for those who are unable to spend two days away.
Please contact the practice for more information.
